Mastery Maths introduction

This introductory training session provides an overview of the Mastery approach to teaching mathematics, supporting staff in developing a deeper understanding of how pupils learn maths effectively. Grounded in principles promoted by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, the session explores how teaching for depth, rather than speed, can improve confidence, attainment, and long-term understanding for all learners.

Participants will be introduced to key concepts and the session will highlight practical strategies for classroom implementation, including questioning techniques, identifying misconceptions, and ensuring all pupils can access and succeed in mathematics.

Ideal for teaching and support staff at all levels, this session lays the foundation for a consistent, whole-school approach to maths that promotes inclusion, challenge, and a genuine understanding of mathematical concepts.
