Excell Supply are currently recruiting for a Director of Community based in Wem near Shrewsbury. The school caters to a range of children aged 9-16 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), specifically Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides non-residential education for up to 84 students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). This school has a rich history of supporting vulnerable children, with a mission rooted in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment that promotes both academic and personal development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Engagement:

Build relationships between the school and local community, families, and external organizations.

Lead community-based projects to encourage social inclusion, diversity, and parental engagement.

Organize events and workshops to increase family and community involvement in education.

Develop volunteer initiatives to involve parents and community members in school activities.

Coordinate leadership and community service programs for students.

Family Support & Inclusion:

Lead family support services and provide guidance for families facing challenges.

Develop inclusive programs ensuring equitable access to school services, especially for disadvantaged families.

Learner Engagement & Risk Reduction:

Implement initiatives to reduce disengagement and vulnerability to criminal exploitation among students.

Collaborate with school staff to provide early intervention for students in need.

Personalized Program Delivery:

Plan and deliver small group interventions for students with social, emotional, or academic challenges.

Oversee support staff delivering these interventions.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., community development, social work, education).
  • Experience in community engagement, supporting vulnerable families, and working with diverse communities.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to monitor and evaluate initiatives.

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications in family support, community engagement, or social care.
  • Continuous professional development in community or family support.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
