Excell Supply are currently recruiting for a Director of Health & Wellbeing based in Wem near Shrewsbury. The school caters to a range of children aged 9-16 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), specifically Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides non-residential education for up to 84 students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). This school has a rich history of supporting vulnerable children, with a mission rooted in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment that promotes both academic and personal development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Health & Wellbeing Strategy:

Lead the development and implementation of a school-wide health and well being strategy.

Serve as the Designated Mental Health Lead, promoting emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

Work with staff to identify focus areas for proactive well being support.

Learner Support:

Oversee mental, emotional, and physical health interventions for students.

Develop programs to build resilience, self-confidence, and positive mental health.

Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and adjust based on data.

Physical Health & Healthy Lifestyles:

Promote physical activity, nutrition, and overall wellbeing through collaborations with the PE department and external providers.

Implement programs to encourage healthy lifestyles among students.

Staff Wellbeing:

Support the well being of staff, focusing on creating a positive work environment and work-life balance strategies.

Develop wellbeing initiatives, providing mental health support and other resources.

Safeguarding & Compliance:

Ensure that all health and wellbeing initiatives comply with safeguarding regulations.

Maintain statutory records related to learner health and wellbeing.

Mental Health Interventions:

Deliver or oversee interventions for mental health support, including small group or one-on-one sessions.

Collaborate with staff to implement personalized wellbeing curricula based on learners’ individual needs.

Professional Development:

Stay up to date with best practices in safeguarding, welfare, and pastoral care, sharing knowledge with the school community.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, psychology, education).
  • Proven leadership experience in health and well being, especially within a school or health setting.
  • Experience in managing mental and physical health interventions.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and data-informed decision-making skills.

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications in mental health, safeguarding, or well being.
  • Understanding of the national health agenda for schools.
