Excell Supply are currently recruiting for a Director of Community based in Wem near Shrewsbury. The school caters to a range of children aged 9-16 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), specifically Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides non-residential education for up to 84 students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). This school has a rich history of supporting vulnerable children, with a mission rooted in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment that promotes both academic and personal development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Help pupils take ownership of their tasks and develop independent learning skills.
Supervise pupils working independently, providing guidance and ensuring completed work is returned to staff.
Establish positive relationships with pupils to encourage their engagement and acceptance.
Develop strategies to boost students’ self-esteem and encourage effective communication with peers.
Foster students’ self-reliance and independence in various learning situations.
Assist specific pupils with reading, writing, organization, and self-control.
Support children during school trips and events.
Follow up on concerns by communicating with parents as necessary.
Address safeguarding issues according to school policies.
Work closely with teaching staff for lesson preparation and feedback on individual or small group pupils.
Maintain records of student successes and incidents using the school management information system.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent.
- Ability to use IT for communication and data management.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a school setting or with children in a similar role.
- Knowledge of learning support strategies and the importance of safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
Personal Attributes:
- Understanding of effective communication with colleagues and young people.
