Secondary Teaching Assistant – Flexible Cover

Start date: ASAP | Contract: Zero-hours (you pick the days) | Pay: £13.68 – £14.50 p/h

What the job looks like

  • Targeted support – work 1-to-1 or in small groups so every pupil keeps pace.
  • Lesson backup – prepare resources, tidy displays and make sure the right books are on the desks before the bell.
  • Behaviour guidance – notice issues early, keep things calm and help students refocus quickly.
  • Progress tracking – spot the “got-it” moments, jot quick notes and relay them to the class teacher.
  • All-round teamwork – liaise with teachers, pastoral staff and SENCOs so each learner gets what they need.

What we’re looking for

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness for us to arrange one).
  • Classroom or youth-work experience is helpful; calm communication and a willingness to learn are essential.
  • Sound safeguarding knowledge and the judgement to put it into practice.
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly, encourage reluctant learners and keep lessons moving.
