That’s why we were absolutely thrilled to donate a set of iPads to the incredible team at Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn to support a life-changing communication project.
For many pupils at the school, expressing themselves can be a challenge, as many are non-speaking or have limited verbal language. The school’s specialist team, including Speech Language and Behaviour Assistant Cara Crisp, identified a need for a more uniform and robust communication system to help bridge this gap.
Working with Jess Child from the Electronic Assistant Technology Service in Wales, the school embarked on a project to roll out a powerful app called TD Snap across the classrooms. The goal was to create a “universal system so that kids can access language,” presuming that every child has the ability to learn symbolic language until proven otherwise. As Jess noted, “until we give those children an opportunity, we don’t know how much they want to express themselves”.
This is where we knew we had to help. By providing iPads dedicated solely to this purpose, we could help put this powerful tool directly into the hands of the students who need it most.
The impact has been immediate and profound.
Cara shared that even within the first couple of weeks, the results have been inspiring: “walking into classrooms and seeing children access language that haven’t previously done so… seeing children interacting with that board when perhaps, they haven’t been able to express themselves previously”.
These iPads are set to become a constant companion for the students. They won’t just be used in lessons; they will be taken on trips and used on the playground, ensuring every child has a voice wherever they go. This consistent access is vital for deepening their language skills and allowing them to truly express what they want and need, both in school and out in the community.
We are incredibly proud to play a small part in this amazing initiative. The work being done by the staff at Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn is truly transformative. Hearing that the devices are “vital” and “greatly appreciated” is the best feedback we could ever hope for.
