As a former teaching assistant himself, Sam was the ideal appointment when Excell Supply was looking for a new account manager to look after our teaching assistants this time last year. Twelve months into his time with Excell and Sam is taking his role a step further by supporting our teaching assistants through lesson observations, aimed at offering feedback and suggesting areas of development. Feedback will also be shared with account managers, helping them get a better understanding of the teaching assistants at their disposal. Sam explained;
“We wanted to offer our staff additional support in the classroom that they otherwise wouldn’t get on a supply basis. Life on day to day supply can sometimes feel quite isolating as you don’t always get chance to have that peer support you would expect from a long-term role or permanent job, so the idea is that by offering lesson observations we can give everyone positive feedback on their strengths and help identify areas they could work on to reach their full potential. Having been a teaching assistant for five years before becoming an account manager, I know how it feels going into different schools all the time and will hopefully be able to boost people’s confidence by pointing out the great things they are doing day in, day out for Excell.”
The move comes as part of our wider push to play an active role in helping our candidates find permanent work in schools, as well as improve the standard of support staff across North Wales, West Cheshire and Wirral with a series of training sessions including; Safeguarding, Behaviour Management and Digital Literacy.
